One out of nine
Thank you for all the kindness regarding my last post. I was quite the grumpy pants wasn't I! Well, I just let it all hang out here at "All Dolled Up." Ironic given the title of my blog!
Anyhoo...it occurred to me the other day that I am basically, "merchandising" my house. You see...I worked in retail for farrr too long and I was a merchandiser. I think that mindset is forever ingrained in my brain as I take over what should be functional spaces and "merch" them with totally nonfunctional tidbits. Poor Hubby, only one out of nine items on the kitchen counter is functional. Can you guess which one?
It's the little aqua sugar bowl. And my dear Richard doesn't even use sugar. (He's sweet enough already.)
But at least he can find solace (yeah right ;) in knowing that our kitchen counter always looks cute.
Happy Friday everyone!
Guess what I'm doing this weekend? Not working, that's what! For me that is quite exciting. I may be scrubbing the floor or working in the yard but I am not going near that sewing machine for a full 48 hours. Well, that is the plan anyways. We'll see if I can make it.

i feel ya! the key is to try to come up with SOME function for those pretty objects. you could use those little red sugar/tea tins to store buttons and sewing supplies in your craft area, or the pitcher for flowers, for example. i like to set up little displays for my stuff and then use an item whenever i find a use for it!
wren :)
p.s. enjoy your weekend! i hope it's as sunny down there as it is up here!

Cece, I love how you say you might not be "working" this weekend, but you might be working in the yard or scrubbing the floor. We gals who dabble in a million things all throughout our days lose sight of what is work and what is play. At one moment my crafts might be this daunting deadline looming over my head and at other times they are my salvation from a tough day at work. The bottom line is that we love just about everything we do, no matter the stress of it, the time it takes, blah blah blah. The gift we have of turning just about everything we do into a "project of our heart" is work I'll gladly do every day of my life.
Enjoy your weekend, whatever "project of your heart" calls.

Hope you have had a really lovely weekend off and not scrubbed too many floors! Your counter looks fabulous!

Cece,
I wish I could put more out on my counters! I, however, have two elementary school-aged kids who love to fiddle with everything out on the counter. So, I usually have to keep things up on a "higher" level. I do love your decorative assortment, though! I have a milk glass hen covered dish, too, but mine does not have any paint on its head. Take care.

Your counter is so adorable!! What matters is that it looks cute and makes you happy, not that every single thing has to be functional!! :)

Oooh tell me about non-functional things. I can't seem to get rid of mine due to the cuteness factor too. much to my husbands annoyance ofcourse, Good thing Richard is all sweet about it!Hope you had a fun weekend staying away from the sewing machine Cece:)

What a cute, colorful, adorable counter! If only I could teach my husband that counters are not for mail, keys, change, toothpicks, cell phones, etc.
